Joe Sill is currently an undergraduate Film Production major at Chapman University in Orange, CA. His interest for filmmaking began in the eighth grade when – with the option of doing a video instead of writing an essay – he almost immediately chose to make a video. From then on, he’d make small, cowboy vs. indian/cops and robbers-esque videos with his neighborhood friends, and this fascination for telling stories through film grew.

By the time he entered high school, Joe decided that film was a hobby he wished to pursue, and took up a beginning video literacy class during his freshman year. He auditioned in for the Advanced Film/TV Production class during his sophomore year – a course offered only to juniors and above, and became one of the first sophomores to take the course. He was introduced to FilmEd* Academy of the Arts, a program that sponsors 13 different high school video programs in Orange County with professional-grade equipment and technology, teaching them the work ethic of the filmmaking industry. Now captivated all the more, Joe spent all the time he could learning more about this new material placed in front of him. He began co-directing the school broadcast, and that year they entered a few projects into the annual ORANGE COUNTY FILM FESTIVAL and went home with four awards for GRAPHICS, EDITING, BROADCAST, and TRAILER.

Joe moved on to more independent projects, self-producing and directing a music video to the Fray song, “How to Save a Life”. He won Best Music Video at the 2007 SADDLEBACK FILM FESTIVAL, and in 2009 won again for Best Originality in the acclaimed HARVARD-WESTLAKE FILM FESTIVAL, hosted by Tom Hanks. He continued his junior year by again co-directing the school broadcast, also creating another music video to Linkin Park’s “Shadow of the Day”, which won Best Music Video in the 2008 ORANGE COUNTY FILM FESTIVAL. He continued to rack up nominations at the OCFF, walking away again with four awards and over a dozen nominations, including Best Director.

His senior year marked a high in his high school filmmaking career. He produced a 20-minute short film set in the midst of WWII, “Moonlight”, and became director of his Advanced Film/TV Production class, handling all aspects of the broadcast productions. His group entered once again into the ORANGE COUNTY FILM FESTIVAL, racking up 14 nominations and walking away with 8 wins – the most awards given to a single group ever. He personally received the FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR award, the most prestigious award of the entire festival.

Joe has worked on several outside projects to date, including producing a feature for Jason Lezak, a spot on the 2008 Tournament of Roses Parade that featured KTLA anchorman Frank Buckley, an official music music video to the band Anarbor’s “The Brightest Green”, and has just finished production of an official music video for the rap group GGB, which features Roscoe Umali.

Jonathan was interested in film since middle school, but did not start experimenting with cameras and filming until high school. He joined the media production team at El Dorado High School in its second year, and became a part of the FilmEd Academy of the Arts program founded by David Junker. He loved being an anchor on Hawk Talk, El Dorado’s news show, but especially enjoyed the behind the scene aspects of filming and editing the show most of all. His first year in the program he was invited to the Student Television Network convention at Disneyland, along with several other students from El Dorado as well as neighboring high schools. In his senior campaign he was awarded best editing for a music video he directed, filmed, and edited. He was also apart of the team that won Best Music Video at the Harvard Westlake Film Festival. Now in college, he is pursuing his visions of becoming a filmmaker and contributing his talents to Plural Eyes Media.
